چکیده

A case of a thirty-eight year old man with pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP) type 1 associated with gonadotropin resistance and hypercalcitoninaemia was reported. The basal levels of the luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone were elevated, and the responses to the luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone were exaggerated. The basal level of testosterone was normal, but the response to human chorionic gonadotropin was blunted. The serum calcitonin level was high, and hyper-responsiveness was observed by pentagastrin administration. From these results, it was suggested that partial testicular resistance to gonadotropin and the possibility of resistance to calcitonin were present in our case.

Albright's hereditary osteodystrophy.

Albright's hereditary osteodystrophy is a rare inherited metabolic disorder characterized by a typical phenotype. It may be associated with or without resistance to parathyroid hormone (pseudohypoparathyroidism). Both forms may co-exist in the same family. Pseudohypoparathyroidism Type 1 and Pseudo-pseudohypoparathyroidism occur as a consequence of reduced erythrocyte membrane coupled with Gs a...

Association of adiponectin gene rs2241766 polymorphism with serum adiponectin level, Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus in an Iranian population

Introdution: Adiponectin is a peptide secreted from fat cells that plays an important role in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. A number of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the adiponectin gene are associated with lower adiponectin expression and T2DM. The aim of this study was to determination the frequency of rs 2241766 polymorphism in adiponectin gene and its relat...

Pseudohypoparathyroidism type Ia manifesting as intractable epilepsy in a 23-year-old female

Pseudohypoparathyroidism is a rare disorder of calcium metabolism that involves target organ resistance to the action of the parathyroid hormone. As a result, calcium levels may become dangerously low, sometimes leading to seizures and other symptoms. We present a case of a 23-year-old Somalian female on antiepileptic therapy presenting with intractable epilepsy. She was subsequently found to h...

Minireview: GNAS: normal and abnormal functions.

GNAS is a complex imprinted gene that uses multiple promoters to generate several gene products, including the G protein alpha-subunit (G(s)alpha) that couples seven-transmembrane receptors to the cAMP-generating enzyme adenylyl cyclase. Somatic activating G(s)alpha mutations, which alter key residues required for the GTPase turn-off reaction, are present in various endocrine tumors and fibrous...

Classic and Non-Classic Features in Pseudohypoparathyroidism: Case Study and Brief Literature Review

Pseudohypoparathyroidism is a rare condition that is due to a defect in the stimulatory G-protein coupled receptor, resulting in end-organ resistance to parathyroid hormone. Hereditary forms of pseudohypoparathyroidism present with certain classic features such as obesity, short stature, brachydactyly, and intellectual disability. Constellation of these physical features is known as Albright's ...
